Armstrong Whitworth NF12

The NF12 was the third of the Meteor nightfighter types to fly due to the more significant update involved. The engines which were upgraded to 3,800 lb Derwent 9's and it also featured an extra 43cm (17 inch) extension to the nose to accommodate the new American Westinghouse AN/APS-21 radar. This also required additional fin area to maintain directional stability. The first NF12 WS590 flew on 21st April 1953 later being delivered to 238 OCU, A total of 100 were built all serving with the RAF.
