Gloster Meteor T7 WH166

WH166 had a very active and varied career, it was built at Hucclecote in December 1951 powered by Rolls Royce Derwent V turbojets. It entered service with 208 AFS (Advanced Flying School) on the 1st January 1952 at RAF Merryfield in Somerset carrying unit code '10'.

4th June 1953: 210 AFS, Tarrant-Rushton.

25th Apr 1954: 205 AFS, Middleton St George (Teeside) carries unit code '34'.

1st June 1954: 205 AFS becomes No. 4 FTS (Flying Training School).

6th Feb 1955: Stored at 12 MU RAF Kirkbride.

4th May 1955: To storage at 38 MU at Llandow.

20th Apr 1956: To Avro for refurbishment, New Derwent 8's installed.

12th Oct 1956: Returned to storage with 12 MU, Declared non-effective 1st Feb 1957.

13th Mar 1959: To 33 MU Lyneham for disposal (With New engines!).

9th June 1959: Returns to active service at RAF Flying College Manby, flew from nearby Strubby.

21st Nov 1961: Withdrawn from service and stored at 33 MU, also stored in this period at 5 MU Kemble.

24th June 1963: To No. 5 CAACU (Civilian Anti-Aircraft Co-operation unit) at RAF Woodvale.

26th Jan 1965: Its last flying tour begins with Central Flying School at Little Rissington coded '27'.

9th Sept 1969: Declared non-effective stock.

12th Sept 1969: Struck off charge, allocated to RAF Digby as instructional airframe 8052M.

1st Dec 1969: Placed on display at RAF Digby in 25 Sqn colours, coded 'A' (A unit it never flew with).

1991: Put up for disposal, sold to ??.
