A wonderful picture from MOD Air Historical branch via Phillip Rhodes. I don't have official permission to
publish this but hope they will forgive this as its one of the few I have seen of WA591 in flight while in RAF
service, isn't it great. It's in formation with VW422, but when was it taken and what unit was she flying with?
If you have a great photo of a meteor or a related subject, then send it to us. Please get permission first if you don't own the photograph.
12th May, 2008:
The project has progressed well over recent months, check out the project pages for new images including the undercarriage which is now installed and fully retractable into the center section bays. We are however looking for some parts for the control system which are shown on the Wanted page.
The Meteor Flight are always looking for help so if you think you can contribute to the project then please get in touch. WL360 is now in Malta, stored awaiting restoration. It made the journey with WS774 which will go on display fairly quickly due to the standard of its restoration. I will post a photo of WS774 at Malta Air Museum when it is unveiled.
The Meteor Flight has three Westland Wessex gear boxes. They have been completely reconditioned and include paperwork for one of the units. Since they don't fit on the Meteor they are up for sale to give us some more space and some extra funds for the project. The gear boxes would also be an ideal source of spare parts. If your interested contact our chairman Hal Taylor for further details.
For just £12 a year you can be a member of the group and can help us return WA591 to the air even faster. Get involved in any aspect of the organisation from rebuilding the aircraft itself (under supervision as appropriate) or the equally important work of maintaining the facilities. Alternatively you can support us with a cheque once a year from the comfort of your armchair. Visitors are always welcome so if you would like to see the project first hand then get in touch and organise a visit
Comments and feedback are welcome via the committee or by email at meteorflight@uk2.net If you have a question that is not covered, or disagree with any of the content then then don't hesitate to get in touch as accuracy is important. Thank's to everyone for your emails and photos, We answer every email and the support is appreciated by the volunteers that work at Yatesbury.
