Meteor Restoration Projects
The projects to restore and maintain Meteor airframes, there isn't much chance of another Meteor restoration to airworthiness with the completion of WA591 but several attempts are underway to restore aircraft to engine running/ taxiable status.
WA591 Kemble - Airworthy
The first flight of WA591 took place on the 14th June 2011, further flights will follow once an undercarriage warning light is investigated after which it will depart Kemble for the paint shop. It will then join the Air Atlantique fleet on the airshow circuit although is also likely to have a role in training jet pilots as it will be one of the few two seat jet trainers in the world.
WH291 Speke, Liverpool
Meteor F8, WH291 has been swapped for WK914 which has moved onto the Malta Air Museum. The restoration of WH291 is taking place at Speke, Liverpool where Mike Davey is carrying out an in depth restoration the the same plans as he had for WK914, ground running status depending on availability of spares. the project was boosted by the large quantity of Meteor F8 & T7 spares that came with WL405 acquired from the Meteor Flight via Martin Garrett when the group moved the restoration of WA591 to Kemble and subsquently completed the restoration of WA591 to airworthiness.
WK914 Hooton Park
Meteor F8, WK914 is owned by Mike Davey who has been working long-term to restore it to at least ground running state. Its now moved back to Hooton Park from Millom.
WL405 Hooton Park
Meteor T7, WL405 has now moved to Hooton park after being sold to Mike Davey. It arrived in December 2010 along with a large quantity of F8 & T7 Meteor spares. WL405 was in storage at Yatesbury with the Meteor Flight until its brief ownership by Martin Garrett at Bruntingthorpe.
Other Projects
Let us know if your actively involved in restoring a Meteor or Meteor cockpit and I'll post your news and links to your project pages here. We are still keen to support the restoration of WA591 by the Meteor Flight at Kemble but the site now has a wider purpose to encourage and publicise other Meteor restoration projects.
