Rolls Royce Derwent (W2B/37)

Rapid developments in materials technology and increasing confidence in the concept of the turbojet led Rolls Royce to unwrap the W2B/23's reverse flow design into one where the air traced a direct path through the engine. This had already been proved in the Halford H1 design. There were four versions of the Derwent all producing around 2,000 lbs of thrust with the versions differentiated by detail changes to improve reliability and maintenance.

The W2B design also featured a double sided impeller

The design of the W2B/23 is obvious in this engine preserved at the Museum of Army Flying
